Review of Ubigi eSIM on our Bosnia & Herzegovina trip

Unlike neighboring countries, Bosnia & Herzegovina doesn’t have as many eSIM options. So we thought we’d review the eSIM we used (and loved) on our two-week trip around the country.

Because it’s a very mountainous country, choosing a reliable eSIM that performs well is crucial.

We used the Ubigi eSIM, which outperformed all other eSIMs we also had installed on our phones (we usually use multiple), including our home mobile plans from Croatia and Slovenia.

The speed was fast, and the signal was consistent throughout the country, even in places we didn’t expect - and we’ve seen a lot of the country.

Review of Ubigi eSIM in Bosnia and Herzegovina

Why we decided to use the Ubigi eSIM

We’re not new to eSIMs (we’ve tested many so far), and neither are we to Ubigi. We’ve used Ubigi on many trips across Europe (Malta, Croatia, the United Kingdom, etc.) and in Morocco, and we’ve always had a 10/10 experience.

What we like most about Ubigi eSIMs

  • A fantastically good range of different eSIM plans for different durations and with generous data allowance.
  • A wide range of regional plans, as well as an actually affordable World eSIM plan.
  • Fast 4G/5G speeds with a connection to the best networks in each country, ensuring the best possible coverage.
  • No hotspot/tethering limits – sharing data with other devices.
  • eSIM activation upon arrival in a new destination.
  • One eSIM for all destinations – install once.

A bit about our experience

On our trip, we had the 30-day unlimited Ubigi eSIM, which was perfect for our needs.

Right from the start, when we crossed the border from Croatia, we were online, even before our home plans from Croatia and Slovenia connected to the network.

Then, in Sarajevo, our first destination, we had no issues whatsoever, even though 5G is still not available in the city.

After leaving Sarajevo, we reached our first mountain destination, Lukomir, the highest inhabited village, and honestly expected signal issues. However, we were pleasantly surprised and had a great connection throughout our stay.

Lukomir wasn’t the last mountain place we visited in B&H, as we went hiking up to Maglić not long after – the highest peak in the country.

There, we had signal the whole time, right until we crossed the border into Montenegro. Yes, you start the hike in Bosnia, then hike into Montenegro, and then finish back in Bosnia. We didn’t plan to do this hike initially, but we’re so happy we did, as it was stunning.

As soon as we got back to B&H, our Ubigi eSIM reconnected, and we were back online.

Without going into too much detail, we can attest that this positive experience continued for the rest of our two-week trip in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

We had no issues whatsoever and were extremely satisfied with the speed and signal of the Ubigi eSIM.

Available plans

Below are the currently available Ubigi eSIM plans for Bosnia and Herzegovina.

For low-data usage, we recommend the 9 EUR plan for 15 days with 3 GB. Otherwise, the 20 EUR plan with 10 GB and 30-day validity is ideal for any trip in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Technical details

Mobile network quality

Ubigi eSIM connects to two of the best mobile networks in Bosnia and Herzegovina, BH Telecom and HT Eronet.

Otherwise, the country has one more strong operator, m:tel, which is best for Republika Srpska, but most tourists don’t really visit much of that area, except maybe for hiking in Sutjeska (Maglić).

That’s why connecting to BH Telecom and HT Eronet effectively covers the whole country.

Hotspotting

Ubigi eSIM lets you hotspot data from one device to others in Bosnia and Herzegovina, with no hotspot limits.

We love that Ubigi has no hotspot limit, since that’s one of the main things we always need from eSIMs. We sometimes get one eSIM and share data to the other phone.

Also, when we worked on our laptops on the trip, hotspotting data was the best way to get a secure, fast connection.

Internet speed

We haven’t done a speed test with the Ubigi eSIM in Bosnia and Herzegovina, but during our two weeks of use, it was super fast, and we never had issues.

It didn’t seem like the speed was ever throttled.

Fair Use Policy – Unlimited data eSIM limits

Different eSIM companies set different Fair Use Policy limits for unlimited plans, which means it won’t be unlimited at full speed.

With the unlimited Ubigi eSIM in Bosnia and Herzegovina, you get 20GB of full speed on the 7-day plan and 60GB on the 30-day plan. After that, speeds drop to 2 Mbps.

We’d say it’s a pretty fair deal, and should cover even the most data-heavy usage. Unless you’re downloading a bunch of stuff, which we assume you won’t do while traveling the country. 🙂

eSIM Activation TIP: We always prefer to install our eSIM before the trip, when we are sure to have a good signal, so it is ready as soon as we get to the destination. This has always worked well for us with Ubigi, as it automatically connected as soon as we landed or crossed the border into a new country.

Final thoughts

Based on our on-the-ground experience and compared with other options, Ubigi is a reliable choice for a Bosnia and Herzegovina eSIM that kept us connected across the country with fast speeds.
