Ubigi eSIM Review - Is Ubigi SIM good for travel - Why we like buying Ubigi eSIMs for our travel

In this review of the Ubigi eSIM, we won’t overcomplicate things or go into details you might not even care about. Instead, we will focus on the things that matter most during our travels and vacations to help you decide whether getting an eSIM from Ubigi is worth it for you.

We’ve used a Ubigi eSIM on multiple trips so far. However, we’d like to highlight our experience from two trips where we used it most extensively – our London and Malta visits.

Spoiler alert: We had a 10/10 experience.

How to get a Ubigi eSIM

Before we jump into the details of our experience with the Ubigi eSIM, here is how to get it and save money on your next purchase.

  1. Buy an eSIM data plan for your planned destination.
  2. Activate your new eSIM by scanning the QR code (you can also just click a link in the app to install it if you have created your Ubigi account).
  3. Turn on your eSIM and associate it with mobile data in the Mobile Data settings.
  4. Enjoy your new eSIM with great coverage and fantastic speed.
Good to know: You can actually purchase a data plan up to six months in advance, and it will activate once you arrive at your destination.

Heads up! You can save 10% on your next Ubigi eSIM plan with our discount code.

eSIM Activation TIP: We always prefer to install our eSIM before the trip, when we are sure to have a good signal, so it is ready as soon as we get to the destination. This worked well for us with Ubigi, as it automatically connected right as we landed.

Our experience from multiple trips with a Ubigi eSIM

While we were visiting London for the first time, both for the World Travel Market and to explore the city, we gave Ubigi’s eSIM a try for the very first time.

We used the United Kingdom 10GB plan for 30 days, which cost only 12 EUR and is now even one euro cheaper. It’s a seriously good deal.

The eSIM and app were easy to install, and we could easily track our data usage, so we knew exactly how much data we had left.

We used it throughout our trip and had no issues whatsoever, with super-fast speeds and a great signal during the whole time in London (as expected).

Surprisingly, we also didn’t have any issues with the network while at London’s World Travel Market, which is known for worse connectivity due to so many people at one spot.

Then, on our recent Malta trip, instead of a country plan, we got the Europe eSIM plan with 10GB for 30 days.

As soon as we landed in Malta, we turned on mobile data on our phones and were online in seconds, ready to navigate to the car rental office to pick up our rental car and explore the island.

We also used the same eSIM later in Croatia as well. And this is where Ubigi eSIMs really shine. Their regional, multi-country plans are perfect for trips to more countries, as they connect to the best networks in each one at fast speeds.

That’s why Ubigi is also our favorite provider of European eSIMs. You can read all about that in our detailed Best Europe eSIMs article, where we outline the best eSIM options for visiting the EU, the UK, and also Scandinavia & the Baltic, the Balkans, and even some Asian destinations.

We were happy to have a great signal all over the island of Malta and the island of Gozo, and even in some more remote nature/cliff spots where our home country plans didn’t get any.

There was only one spot in Malta where we couldn’t get any connectivity, which was, funnily enough, at our local Lidl store and the neighboring shopping center. Weirdly, it was a kind of signal black spot/dead zone. Other than that, we were covered for our whole Malta trip!

It was perfect whenever we needed navigation, to look up information online, or in situations like using the audioguide at Ħaġar Qim and Mnajdra Archaeological Park.

What we like most about Ubigi eSIMs

  • A fantastically good range of different eSIM plans for different durations and with generous data allowance.
  • Wide range of regional plans (especially for Europe & Asia), as well as an actually affordable World eSIM plan.
  • Fast 5G speeds and connection to the best networks in each country. They connect to up to 3 of the best networks, ensuring the best possible coverage, especially in Europe.
  • No hotspot/tethering limits (sharing data with other devices).
  • eSIM activation upon arrival in a new destination.
  • One eSIM (install once) for all destinations.

How good is Ubigi compared to other eSIM companies?

When comparing Ubigi to other eSIM providers like Airalo and Holafly, which we also used on many trips, Ubigi stands out as the better choice for cost-effective eSIM plans with the fastest speeds and the best coverage.

Likewise, something we mentioned a few times already and believe is incredibly valuable are their regional plans, which we believe are among the absolute best on the market. Plus, no hotspotting limits (unlike competitors like Holafly).

Additionally, their World Plan is very reasonably priced, getting you connected worldwide for a full month with 10GB of data for only 59 EUR/USD. And if you’re not a heavy data user, you might benefit from the 50GB plan for half a year (about 8GB per month) for only 188 EUR or about 30 EUR per month.

Final thoughts

We’ve had a fantastic experience with Ubigi eSIMs so far and can highly recommend them as the perfect option for traveling abroad.

Personally, we usually do longer trips to each country, so we go for the country plans. But if you’re planning to do any kind of country-hopping trips, check out their regional plans as they are truly worth it. They give you fast speeds, unlimited hotspotting, and access to the fastest networks.

Thanks to Ubigi, we only used the iconic London telephone booths for photos. 😁 *Ubigi is a data-only eSIM, but you can make WhatsApp and VoIP calls at fast data speeds without issues!
