How to visit Bogova Waterfall near Berat & Osumi Canyon - Visiting Bogova Waterfall tips - getting to Bogova Waterfall

How to get to Bogova Waterfall

The starting point of the hike to Bogova Waterfall is located just a 2-minute drive off the main road connecting Berat and Osumi Canyon.

We visited Bogova Waterfall after finishing our river tubing tour (there’s plenty of time to do both on the same day).

At the end of the road you take from Bogova village, there is a free parking lot for about 20 cars (depending on how people park).

You can also visit Bogova Waterfall on an organized combo tour that also visits Osumi Canyon.

RENTING A CAR

We love exploring places at our own pace and on our own time, especially to avoid crowds at popular destinations we visit. Plus, watching sunrises and sunsets at epic locations is a must. ☀

That’s why renting a car for us is a no-brainer, and an unmissable part of most trips. 🚗

We love having the choice to compare prices, choose different pick-up and drop-off locations (one-way rentals), and pay for a reasonable full insurance policy without going broke. 🤑

As of our visit in late October 2025, about 50 meters of the road to the free parking lot were full of big potholes. We came in our Fiat Panda, which is perfect for these roads, and we also saw regular cars passing through, though of course a bit slower.

There are also paid parking spots just before the road descends towards the free ones, where young kids want you to pay 5 EUR. This is also where an ATV/Quad rental company offers you the option to take one to the waterfall.

We believe it’s a shame that the ATV rental company operates here, as the hike to the waterfall is relatively short, and with many people walking the trail, this is outright dangerous.

Planning to spend more time in the Osumi Canyon area? Çorovodë, a 30-minute drive further from Bogova, also has hotels where you can stay. That way, you can explore the area more easily. A good option with comfy rooms and good amenities is Canyon’s house.

Short hike to the waterfall

The 20-minute hike to Bogova Waterfall is more of a walk now, as it’s a gravel road, compared to years before, when it was a nice hike on a trail that crossed bridges over the river.

Now it’s essentially a road the water company’s trucks can drive on, so it’s lost the “magic” visitors described years ago.

But if you’re lucky like us, you might have the company of lots of goats.

The waterfall

However, the Bogova waterfall hasn’t lost any of its charm and is a beautiful place! The pool of water below the waterfall is supposedly more than 10 meters deep, so it’s perfect for cliff jumping.

The best time to visit Bogova Waterfall is early morning, before tours arrive, and late afternoon. The water is cold even in the summer, so it’s a perfect place to refresh yourself on a hot day.

Beyond the waterfall, there’s not much to do, but a dip in the pool below it is a must. Since we were there in late October and had spent a lot of time in the water during our Osumi Canyon River Tubing, we were okay not to go into the freezing water. But we do kind of regret it now!

While we were taking photos of the waterfall, a local shepherd came down the hill with what looked like a hundred goats.

They hung around the waterfall area for a bit before heading down the path we came from. So we had goats with us all the way back to our car. They were so cute jumping all around, but they did leave a trail of poop. 😂

Our favorite Albania eSIM

Fast Speed and Reliable Signal

Ever since we got phones that support eSIMs, we have been hooked and never looked back. 📶

We always get the best value-for-money eSIM we can, based on reliable signal, fast internet speeds, and coverage across the country.  🌐

Now that eSIM plan prices are more than reasonable compared to regular phone plans (which are more of a hassle to get), we really see no reason not to get one for each trip.

Final thoughts and what to do nearby

Visiting Bogova Waterfall is a fun little adventure that’s easy to add to your day. Beyond the waterfall, definitely don’t miss visiting the Osumi Canyon nearby! We highly recommend seeing the canyon on a river tubing tour – you can read our review to see if it’s a good fit for you.
