Best luxury hotels in Hvar island - best luxury Hvar island hotels

While Hvar is a large island, most luxury hotels are located in the main town of Hvar and in the more laid-back Stari Grad, the second-largest settlement.

We’re listing our absolute favorites that offer the best possible experience while visiting the sunniest island in Croatia (and Europe).

Travel tip: Found a luxury hotel you like? Book it in advance to secure your room, as availability is limited and good hotels in Croatia fill up well before the season starts.

Favorite luxury hotels in Hvar Town

1. Palace Elisabeth

One of the island’s most iconic luxury hotels is Palace Elisabeth, Hvar’s oldest hotel.

It has unmatched harbor and Old Town views, is extremely comfortable, stylish, and perfectly located, just steps away from the marina and Pjaca.

The on-site restaurant is exceptional and serves fantastic food.

2. Beach Bay Hotel

Much like Palace Elisabeth, the Beach Bay Hvar Hotel is equally well located, right at the Franciscan Monastery and beach.

This hotel has stunning sea views from the rooms and a spacious sun terrace with comfy loungers. Plus, the beach is just a few steps away.

Beyond being a comfy place to stay in Hvar, it’s also one of the easiest places to check in right after arriving by boat, as it’s only a 2-minute walk from the pier. That means you don’t have to drag your luggage up a hill, which is otherwise very common in Hvar.

3. Adriana Spa Hotel

Adriana Spa Hotel has potentially one of the best locations in Hvar. It has unmatched views from its rooftop terrace, from which you can see the whole old town of Hvar.

It’s a waterfront property with a promenade in front, and even though it’s located across the water from the pier, it’s only a 5-minute walk away.

On top of that, it’s an actual spa hotel with a luxurious spa offering quality massages and beauty treatments.

If that’s not enough, it’s also known for its outstanding on-site restaurant, Val Marina. You can read Paul Bradbury’s extensive review of the restaurant in Total Croatia News, a fantastic source to learn more about Croatia and what’s hot in the country.

4. Moeesy Blue & Green Oasis

The final spot on our list of the main town’s luxury properties goes to the adults-only Moeesy Blue & Green Oasis boutique hotel, with all the amenities of a resort – perfect for a relaxing vacation.

It’s just a 10-minute walk from the town’s center in a quiet location, and even though it has a fantastic pool with comfy sun loungers, the sea is also just below the property.

There’s also a bar, fitness and spa facilities, and they serve a delicious buffet breakfast.

Luxury stays in Stari Grad

Stari Grad literally translates to “Old Town” and is the oldest settlement on Hvar Island. Compared to the main town of Hvar, it’s more peaceful, but it still has all the amenities you might want.

1. Amicor Resort

Our first choice for a luxury stay in Stari Grad is the Amicor, a beachfront resort with lush gardens where you can stay in one of the stunning suites or villas.

The hotel has several pools, many other amenities, and a good restaurant. In addition to the great pools, the beach is just steps away.

There is an aquapark reserved for hotel guests with water slides, so it’s a perfect place for a family vacation. Plus, there are lots of other sports opportunities and activities at the property.

2. Places Hotel

Another Valamar luxury hotel option in Stari Grad we recommend is Places Hotel, a resort-style seafront hotel.

Compared to Amicor, Places Hotel offers only rooms (no villas), so the price of staying here is much lower, but the rooms are smaller.

So if you plan to spend most of your time outside, it’s a good option, but if you prefer more indoor space, definitely go for Amicor. Check both to see which one you like more, and if you like Places but want more space, get the room with a terrace (that one is just perfect).

The hotel has a big pool, lots of relaxing areas, greenery, a wellness area with a gym, and an on-site bar and restaurant. And the beach is just steps away.

3. Maslina Resort

The furthest away from Stari Grad is the incredible Maslina Resort, also the most expensive one on our list, and for a reason, as it’s the most luxurious option.

It’s a beachfront property with beautiful rooms that give you stunning panoramic sea views. In addition to standard rooms, you can stay in a private pool suite, a big family suite, or a four-bedroom villa.

As if the serene, secluded location of the resort wasn’t enough, you’ve got some fantastic amenities on offer, like a great on-site spa, gym, and restaurant.

The resort’s location can be a negative for some, as it’s a 30-minute walk from Stari Grad. But you can use the free transfer to Stari Grad. Plus, if you’re planning to come to Hvar by rental car like us, this is a great choice, as the ferry pier is just a 2-minute drive away.

Best Villas across the island

Beyond the standard luxury hotels and resorts with private pool villas, there are fantastic villas and private properties in stunning locations on the island.

These are, in our opinion, an even better choice, especially for families and groups.

  • Dolce Terra – three-bedroom villa in a peaceful environment, ideal for stays with a car, year-round swimming pool, gorgeous terrace and garden, barbecue and grilling setup

  • Places Villas – comfy villas as part of a bigger seafront hotel complex, private pool options, and access to shared pools nearby, water areas, sun terraces, gardens, restaurants, and bars

  • Stone Villa Jelsa – peaceful location within walking distance of Jelsa and steps away from the beach, well-equipped for a comfortable stay

  • Villa Bella Vista – an absolutely perfect choice for families and groups, fantastic hosts, and an excellently equipped villa with everything you would possibly need, including a private pool

  • Hvaretta Villas – big, spacious villas in a peaceful area north of Stari Grad, keep in mind a car is good to have to explore from there
