There are endless stunning photo opportunities in Dubrovnik, and with this blog, we would like to highlight the best ones we found during our last week-long trip to Dubrovnik.
List of best Dubrovnik photo spots
As you explore the city, you can use our Dubrovnik Photo Spots Map to navigate them more easily. Bookmark it (click/tap the star icon) and use it later in your Google Maps app.
1. Franciscan Church and Monastery
One of the photo spots in Dubrovnik that looks like you’re in a different country is the Franciscan Church and Monastery.
Its cloister looks beautiful and is the perfect location for some amazing photos. The columns along the cloister also make for a great scene.

MUST-HAVE ✔
💳 Save money when changing currencies or taking out cash by bringing a backup travel card. Oh, and in case an ATM swallows your card. Yes, it happened to us. 🤦♂️
🔌 Bring a Universal Travel Adapter with fast-charging capabilities (45W and Power Delivery).
📶 Stay online by getting an eSIM. You can get our favorite eSIM at a 10% discount.
2. City Walls
City Walls is the BEST photo spot in Dubrovnik because there are countless great photo opportunities all along the walls.
We listed some of the best ones with photo examples below, however, by walking the walls you will find even more of them.

Best Dubrovnik photo spots at City Walls:
- Lookout over Pile Bay
- Views of cliffs at the start
- Harbour area near St. John’s Fortress
- The part between Buža Gate and Minčeta Tower – views of the whole town
- Minčeta Tower – highest point plus views of basketball court

3. Western Outer Wall
The Outer Wall is the only part of the City Walls that is not crowded, and you can take photos without crowds of people around, even during busy times.

While part of the same ticket, the Western Outer Wall has a separate entrance located just below Minčeta Tower.
You can walk parts of the walls that also get you access to Fort Bokar (inside and outside) as well as inside Minčeta Tower. It’s where you can also visit the tunnel-like hallways of the fortress.

4. Gradac Park
Without a drone, people usually only get photos of Fort Lovrijenac from the city walls or Pile Bay. So, to get a different angle, you should visit the area near Gradac Park. The viewpoint at Gradac Park was our personal favorite photo spot in Dubrovnik.

You can get these nice unobstructed views of Fort Lovrijenac, and usually, there are few people there. We were there just before sunset, and it was the perfect time.

5. Banje Beach
Another reason why we loved taking lots of photos in Dubrovnik was because so many photo spots were easy to get to. One of the best photo spots in Dubrovnik is definitely Banje Beach, which is just a short walk outside the Old Town.
From just above the beach, you get great beach views and the Old Town as the backdrop. Banje Beach is a postcard-worthy photo spot in Dubrovnik. It looks stunning!

HOT TIP: If you have a drone at Banje Beach, you can get really mindblowing shots of Dubrovnik.

Our favorite Croatia eSIM
Fast Speed and Reliable Signal
Ever since we got phones that support eSIMs, we have been hooked and never looked back. 📶
We always get the best value-for-money eSIM we can, based on reliable signal, fast internet speeds, and coverage across the country. 🌐
Now that eSIM plan prices are more than reasonable compared to regular phone plans (which are more of a hassle to get), we really see no reason not to get one for each trip.
6. Mount Srđ
For the best photos from Dubrovnik that portray the whole Old Town inside the city walls and the nearby Lokrum Island, you must go to Mount Srđ.
It’s a much better photo spot than simply droning the Old Town!

Also, if you’ve got a good camera with a good lens, you can get amazing close-up shots that you can’t get from any other viewpoint in Dubrovnik.

7. Ploče Gate
An unexpected photo spot we loved in Dubrovnik was just outside the Ploče Gate.
The bridge at the Ploče Gate, the marina in the background, and the flowers in the foreground resulted in some beautiful photos.

8. Steep stairs
From Stradun, the main street in Dubrovnik’s Old Town, turn north and walk up one of the steep stairs, the best locations for photos of Dubrovnik’s narrow streets.

We recommend first getting to Prijeko Street and then finding one of the steep streets you like most. There are at least ten good ones, so that shouldn’t be hard.

9. Jesuit Stairs
One of the most famous Game of Thrones locations and also one of the most photographed spots in Dubrovnik are the Jesuit Stairs (Cersei’s Walk of Shame was filmed there).
Definitely get to the Jesuit Stairs in the early morning, as it’s visited by almost every traveler to Dubrovnik, including countless GOT tours and other walking tours.

Though, they do look cool at night as well. So, if you don’t manage to get there early (we didn’t), coming after sunset or at night is an option!

10. Fort Lovrijenac (Fort Lawrence)
While the best photos of Fort Lovrijenac are best taken from the city walls or Gradac Park, you can enter Fort Lovrijenac to get some of the architecture shots as well as photos of the Pile Bay and parts of the City Walls from a different perspective.

Do note that Fort Lovrijenac is on every tour finding the best Game of Thrones locations, as it was used as the Red Keep in the series. That’s why we visited just before closing, and luckily, the place was somewhat empty.

11. Night-time photos
We already mentioned Jesuit Stairs being a great Dubrovnik photo spot at night, but there are many other locations around the Old Town worth visiting after sundown.
A no-brainer choice for nighttime Dubrovnik photos is Stradun, the main street.

Another great nighttime photo spot in Dubrovnik is around the area of the Rector’s Palace and the Cathedral.

12. Rector’s Palace
Another one of the filming spots for Game of Thrones and Dubrovnik’s best photo spots is Rector’s Palace.
The palace’s architecture is quite interesting, especially the stairs.

Beyond the palace’s interior, the arches of the palace’s outside are great for framing shots of the Cathedral and parts of the central Old Town.
On our last visit, Rector’s Palace, and especially the outside part, was used a lot for wedding photographs.

13. Pile Gate
Pile Gate is the main entrance to the Old Town part of Dubrovnik and is the best place to use as a frame for Stradun Street.
But the only way to avoid people is to be there just after sunrise. Again, since it’s the main entrance, it will be busy with people almost 24/7.

Good to know: The Outer Western Walls we mentioned earlier give you access to the path above Pile Gate, so you can get photos of the gate parts that others usually don’t. But you need to be super early (again) to get it without people.

14. Pile Bay (West Harbour)
For the best close-up shots of Fort Bokar and the waterfront beneath the City Walls, a great photo spot in Dubrovnik is Pile Bay, also known as West Harbour (or Blackwater Bay for Game of Thrones fans).

There are different parts to Pile Bay, with Kolorina Beach on one side, where there are lots of kayaks and views of Fort Bokar, and the part below Fort Lovrijenac, where you get to see the doors and houses cut into the rock.

15. Pasjača Beach
With a 30-minute drive south of Dubrovnik, you can get to Pasjača Beach, one of the photo spots in Dubrovnik that isn’t on everyone’s list.

It’s not the easiest place to take photos of, but if you get the right angle, the beach looks really dramatic.

Best way to explore Croatia?
RENTING A CAR
We love exploring places at our own pace and on our own time, especially to avoid crowds at popular destinations we visit. Plus, watching sunrises and sunsets at epic locations is a must. ☀
That’s why renting a car for us is a no-brainer, and an unmissable part of most trips. 🚗
We love having the choice to compare prices, choose different pick-up and drop-off locations (one-way rentals), and pay for a reasonable full insurance policy without going broke. 🤑
16. Port Gruž
While you can get great photos of boats in the Old Town port, the best location for taking boat photos in Dubrovnik is at Port Gruž. It’s also where the cruises dock.

Croatia Packing List
Without these things, we could not travel (comfortably or effectively)…
🔌 Universal Travel Adapter with fast-charging capabilities (45W and Power Delivery) – essentially covers us for the whole world.
⚡ We never travel without our 10.000 mAh powerbank, which is perfect for charging our phones multiple times.
💦 Filling up an insulated water bottle for days out exploring is a must.
☀🧴 We always buy a reef-safe sunscreen that applies well.
🤳 Forget selfies, having a phone tripod is the new game (easy to pack, carry around & set up).
🌦 After getting a travel-friendly raincoat (poncho), we never have to worry about staying dry.
🦟 Preventing bites with a DEET-free (picaridin) mosquito repellent is a great idea if you don’t want to cover yourself in poison.
🛄 We pack our stuff smarter with affordable packing cubes.
😎 We are active travelers, so sunglasses don’t survive long. So we bought these cheap polarized sunglasses that are travel-friendly and feel good to wear.
🔊 Countless times, we had trouble with noisy neighbors, loud streets, incredibly loud AC, rattling refrigerators, and more that kept us awake at night. Then, we finally bought some cheap earplugs – done!
📱💔 Slippery phone = broken phone. Get a phone case.
🎒 We love a good belt/crossbody bag, so we don’t always have to carry a backpack (fits our phone, wallet, tissues, candy, etc.).
📸 To capture some cooler photos and videos, a drone is a must (if used wisely). And for active stuff, our action camera – it’s so small and easy to use.
Final thoughts and tips
The early bird gets the worm: If you want beautiful photos from Dubrovnik, get up before sunrise! If you plan to visit lots of Dubrovnik photo spots, having at least two full mornings is the best. In that case, we recommend taking the Dubrovnik Pass to cover attraction tickets.
