In addition to all the top things to see and do in Dubrovnik, there are also lots of fun and informative tours that can help you have an even better time, from organized Old Town exploration to cruises and island-hopping, as well as adventure activities like ATV rides, horseback riding, and more.
So, let’s explore the best Dubrovnik tours and activities that are worth your time!
Best tours and activities in Dubrovnik
1. Old Town Walking Tour
The Old Town Walking Tour is the best tour in Dubrovnik, allowing you to get a proper insight into the city and its history in a guided way. It visits Dubrovnik’s main attractions, like Stradun, its main street, the stunning Rector’s Palace, and Dubrovnik Cathedral, among others.
2. City Walls Walking Tour
The walls surrounding the Old Town of Dubrovnik are a must-visit, and the City Walls Walking Tour is the best way to get more insight into the significance and history behind this fascinating UNESCO site.
You can choose the morning or sunset walking tour, the two best times to do it. Otherwise, it’s more crowded and HOT (in the summer).
We walked the City Walls in the morning, and we would recommend the same. So you get to spend the afternoon on other things.
3. Sunset Cruise
What better way to finish a day in Dubrovnik than to go on a sunset cruise overlooking the walls of Dubrovnik and nearby islands while enjoying some sparkling wine?
There are many boats and trips to choose from, but the most famous and cool one is the Sunset Cruise by Karaka, a fascinating-looking 16th-century wooden boat.
The other best options include the Sunset Cruise and Cocktail Experience, and for couples and families, the Sunset Sip & Sail Private Cruise (with unlimited Prosecco).
Did you know?
The boat Karaka is the exact one that Daenerys Targaryen sailed in the Game of Thrones series (Season 6, Episode 10).

4. Game of Thrones Tour
For Game of Thrones fans, going on a Game of Thrones Tour in Dubrovnik is a no-brainer!
Knowledgeable guides will take you to all the best filming locations in and around the Old Town and provide information on filming details and behind-the-scenes stories.
Most people do the GOT tour that visits the Old Town locations, but you also have the option to book a GOT Old Town & Lokrum Tour (visits Iron Throne) and one that visits the Trsteno Arboretum (King’s Landing Gardens).
You can also go on the Game of Thrones Combo Tour, which includes the Walking Tour of the Old Town and the sunset cruise aboard Karaka (Daenerys’ ship).
5. Island Hopping Tour
While there are plenty of things to do in Dubrovnik alone, an island-hopping boat trip to the Elaphite Islands is another activity you shouldn’t miss if you have extra time on your Dubrovnik trip. Located northwest of Dubrovnik, this small archipelago has three main islands worth visiting.
You can choose to visit the Elaphite Islands from Dubrovnik on a shared boat tour, but if you’re traveling as a family or group, we recommend the private boat tour. For the adventurous, there is also an option to join a kayak tour to Elaphite Islands.
6. Sea Kayaking Tour
If you’re looking for an adventurous way to explore Dubrovnik, a sea kayaking tour is a great activity to experience Dubrovnik’s natural beauty and charm from another perspective.
Paddling under the city walls will give you a sense of how massive they are. Kayaking further away will allow you to reach cliffs, charming coves, and beaches.
Make sure to book the morning or afternoon tours to avoid the heat and boat traffic.
7. Montenegro and Bosnia Tours
Two of the best Dubrovnik tours we recommend if you have extra time to see places outside of Dubrovnik are the Montenegro Tour and the Bosnia Tour (two neighboring countries).
Bosnia and Herzegovina Tour
Visiting Bosnia from Dubrovnik is a great day out, as you can reach some cool spots in just two and a half hours from the Old Town.
To explore Bosnia and Herzegovina, we recommend the Kravica Waterfall & Mostar Tour, where you can cool off in crystal-clear pools surrounded by lush greenery before visiting the historic town and its UNESCO Old Bridge.
Montenegro Tour
Montenegro, a scenic country just a 45-minute drive south of Dubrovnik, is a must-visit if you have time to spare during your vacation.
During your day tour, you stop by the picture-perfect town of Perast and enjoy the view of terracotta rooftops, bell towers, and palaces. You can soak up the sparkling blue waters of Kotor Bay and visit a man-made island called Our Lady of the Rocks. This little island has a church with a fascinating history that’s worth learning about.
Then there’s Kotor, a UNESCO coastal town in Montenegro that boasts a rich history, medieval walls and buildings, beautiful streets, museums, and beaches. Plus, yummy local cuisine.
For the best Montenegro experience, book a day trip with a boat cruise that will take you through Montenegro’s natural beauty and charming towns, especially Kotor Bay.
8. Wine Tasting Tour
A great day trip idea from Dubrovnik for wine lovers is a wine-tasting tour at Pelješac Peninsula, just one hour north. This area is famous for its award-winning red wine production, particularly of Plavac Mali and Dingač.
You can visit family-operated wineries to taste and learn about the wine’s history, production techniques, and exceptional characteristics. Local winemakers will personally show you around their cellars and vineyards and unveil the secrets behind their unique creations.
Another great option to explore the Pelješac Peninsula is by joining the full-day wine and food tour, which includes a wine-tasting and food tour in a winery, and visiting Ston, known for its 5.5-kilometer wall (the longest in Europe), the Ston saltworks, and oyster farms.
9. Zipline Adventure Tour
While Dubrovnik is no match to Omiš, the adventure capital of Croatia, it still offers plenty of adventure activities to get your adrenaline pumping.
You can go on the simple but scenic zipline at Mount Srđ above Dubrovnik, or you can go for the 900-meter “Superman” zipline adventure just 4km south of the city.
10. Off-road Buggy and ATV Tour
Dubrovnik offers a nice variety of Buggy and ATV off-road experiences, from the Off-road Buggy one at Mount Srđ, where you can also quickly stop for a great panoramic photo, to the ATV Quad Safari, where you can get some muddy riding through forests and rivers of the Konavle region.
The one in Konavle is especially thrilling. And if you also want to do some sightseeing, there’s the Countryside and Arboretum ATV Tour (with brunch).
11. Jet Ski Tour
A different way to explore the Dubrovnik seascape and the nearby Elaphite Islands is by jet ski.
We recommend the Explore Dubrovnik by Sea experience, which includes transport to Zaton, the best starting point for your jet ski ride to nearby islands. This way, you can get to the best spots without navigating the whole way from the busy city.
12. Horseback Riding Tour
From Dubrovnik, you can also enjoy the Horseback Riding in Konavle experience, which includes transport from the city, wine, and snacks. It’s excellent for beginners as they adjust tours based on the rider’s experience.
13. Cooking Class
To explore the secrets of the popular Dalmatian cuisine, we recommend a Dubrovnik Cooking Class. You can enjoy learning how to make local dishes such as peka (a slow-cooked meat dish with vegetables) in the beautiful Croatian countryside with a local family.
14. Sailing Trip
We saved the best for last!
Beyond the standard day trips to nearby islands and sunset cruises, Dubrovnik is a great starting point for multi-day sailing trips.
A great sailing trip from Dubrovnik is the 3-Night Sailing Trip, which visits Koločep and Šipan on the Elaphite Islands, Mljet, and Pelješac Peninsula. It’s a good mix of sailing and sightseeing with plenty of activities to make it a fun 4-day adventure.
For an even better sailing tour, you could also join one of the week-long trips from Dubrovnik to Split (or the other way around to get to Dubrovnik). We went on a similar trip with MedSailors, and we absolutely loved it. We got to see many beautiful spots around the islands and really enjoy the seaside.
You can read more about it in our Review of MedSailors Sailing Croatia article.
Final thoughts
Beyond just seeing the Old Town of Dubrovnik, it’s also an excellent base for many fun tours, activities, and day trips. So, if you have extra time, adding a night or two more in Dubrovnik is an excellent idea.
Have a fantastic time in Dubrovnik!
